Taking calcium and iron supplements at a time? You should read this.

For proper functioning of the body, we need many vital nutrients and it is a known fact. Also, calcium and iron are very essential for the multiple functions. However, one can take them in form of supplements. But should you take them both together? Well, read on.

According to the National Osteoporosis Foundation, women are more likely to get bone disease, on par with men. So if you have been taking both calcium and iron supplements, there are chances you are making one common mistake.

As per the celebrity nutritionist Makhija, people tend to take all their vitamin pills at once but it should be avoided because taking them at a time is not a good idea as the optimal absorption depends on the time of day taken.

She says that iron and calcium have a great affinity for each other and they bind to each other and compete for the same receptor sites. Consuming them together may not work. So, it is advised to take them six hours apart – one after dinner and another one after lunch.
