Covid-19: New variant alert code – BA.2.12.1
Yet again, Coronavirus is making headlines in India with the new variant and the reports suggest a sharp increase in the number of cases. Below is the list of what we know till now.
- It is highly transmissible than the previous variant in 3rd wave – BA.2
- New strain detected in New Delhi and is the reason for increase in the number of cases.
- Should we be worried?
- Virus is said to be more infectious – spreads faster
- But virulence – ability to cause severe disease is still yet to be determined
- Still BA.2 is the predominant variant and who has not declared this variant as a variant of concern.
