To reduce cholesterol levels, instead of opting for the medical pills there are also other lifestyle based strategies. These strategies are not only quick but also will have permanent effect.

Here are some foods and tips to reduce cholesterol:

  1. Prefer fruits, vegetables, whole grains and beans –We don’t have to become complete vegetarians to get our cholesterol levels controlled,but clearly the more vegetables, fruits, potatoes and other naturally –fiber-rich plant foods we eat, the healthier we will be. Plant foods high in soluble fiber are especially beneficial in lowering total and LDL bad cholesterol levels.

Good sources include-

  3. Oats
  4. Barley and
  5. berries
  6. Be mindful of fat intake
  7. Avoid trans fats
  8. Avoid saturated fats
  9. Avoid dietary cholesterol
  10. Eat more plant sources of protein – Excellent plant protein is included in all beans like lentils,red beans, pinto beans,and soybeans. Beans also reduces the blood sugar an insulin levels and may even lower cancer risk. Animal based protein increases the blood cholesterol levels.
  11. Eat fewer refined grains, such as white flour
  12. Exercise regularly
