3 common period disorders you need to know

Managing your period health might not be a simple task and we totally understand that it can be daunting especially if you lead a stressful life.

1. Menorrhagia: It is nothing heavy periods where a person bleeds for more than 7 days with large clots. This can be caused by cancerous or non-cancerous growths in the uterus, hormone fluctuations or other disorders. The treatment can include hormonal birth control, pain medication or even surger.

2. Amenorrhea: This usually means no periods and there are two types-
A. Primary Amenorrhea: Absence of menstruation in someone who hasn’t had a period by age 15
B. Secondary Amenorrhea: Absence of 3 or more periods in a row.
It can be caused due to childbirth, hormone fluctuations or lifestyle factors.

3. Dysmenorrhea: This means painful periods and it has two types.
A. Primary: It is just normal pain that we feel due to cramps on our period.
B. Secondary: Very severe pain during periods due to disorder or infection in the reproductive organs. It can be caused by tumours, pelvic infections, endometriosis etc.
