Covid-19 cases have been increasing over the last two months with nearly 4.4 million cases being recorded in the August 9-15 week, as per the World Health Organisation (WHO).

The global Covid-19 caseload has now surpassed 206 million.

“With more Covid-19 cases reported in the first five months of 2021 than in the whole of 2020, the world is still in the acute phase of the pandemic despite high vaccination rates in some countries protecting populations from severe disease and death,” WHO stated.

“Inadequate testing and low vaccination rates are exacerbating disease transmission and overwhelming local health systems, while leaving the whole world vulnerable to new variants,” WHO further said.
