New Covid variant C.1.2 causes flutter
Dr, Maria Van Kerkhove, the technical head of the World Health Organization (WHO) took to the Twitter and shared details about the new Covid variant C.1.2.
The WHO has said that to date there are 100 sequences of C.1.2 reported globally; from the earliest reports from May ’21 from South Africa and currently it does not appear to be “increasing in circulation”.
“The WHO has regularly been discussing with South African researchers their work on sequencing throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. We are grateful for researchers in South Africa who first presented their findings on variant C.1.2 to the WHO Virus Evolution Working Group in July ’21,” Kerkhove said.
“But we need more sequencing to be conducted and shared globally,” the technical head of the WHO said, concluding that for now “Delta appears dominant from available sequences.”
