With increasing cases of Coronavirus across the world, scientists and researchers have been working hard to bring out drugs. As per the study published in the journal Signal Transduction & Targeted Therapy, people who have had suffered from chronic heartburn and were using an over-the-counter acid suppressor were able to make it through Covid-19.

According to the research, the famotidine, which is a low-cost medicine that contains the active component Pepcid, was created to inhibit the histamine receptors that assist the stomach produces acid. Famotidine appears to enhance the chances of survival for Covid-19 patients when given in high dosages (equal to roughly 10 Pepcid pills), especially when coupled with aspirin.

The researchers said it also appears to reduce the severity of illness development, reducing the likelihood of patients requiring intubation or a ventilator.
