According to the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, a study that published in 2020, stated that eating before bed time can make you gain weight because while you are sleeping your metabolism will be slow. Hence it boosts the blood sugar and other chemicals that contribute to weight gain and also type 2 diabetes. It is not just  about what you eat but also when you eat is very important because it may promote obesity. Some people may like to have late night snacking to satiate their midnight cravings. It is a habit that may seem harmless but nutrition experts stress that eating just before bedtime is not advisable.

If you cannot avoid meals close to bedtime, then ensure to have a healthier and light meal at night. Be aware and always be mindful of your calorie intake during the entire day so that you can balance it at night accordingly. If you already have had enough calories, then it is fine not to have any at night. Since the body’s metabolism is slow after sunset, it is best to avoid carbohydrates before sleeping as it because  it can be difficult to digest, and lead to weight gain.
