Survey: 70% of Tamil Nadu’s population exposed to Covid-19

According to the seroprevalence survey conducted in Tamil Nadu, 70 per cent of the population in the state had been exposed to Covid-19.

The survey conducted by the Directorate of Public Health showed that with 88 percent seropositivity, Virudhunagar district recorded the highest seropositivity while Karur with 51 per cent had the lowest seropositivity.

The latest report based on the data from the third phase of the survey conducted in July and August this year shows that of 24,586 samples from 827 clusters, 17,090 had antibodies against the virus, which is 70 per cent of the samples.

Five districts had over 75 percent seropositivity, and they are Tenkasi (83%), Chennai (82%), Madurai (79%), Theni (76%), and Ramanathapuram (75%).

The most affected regions during the second wave include Coimbatore, Erode and Salem, which reported 71 per cent, 70 per cent and 60 per cent seropositivity respectively.
