On Wednesday, the Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education (TSBIE) issued an order directing junior colleges to remain closed amid a surge in COVID-19 cases. The order came out a day after the state government shut physical classes in schools and colleges.

The TSBIE said that the managements and principals found violating the rules could face disaffiliation of their institutions and added that online learning and distance learning will continue as earlier.

On Wednesday, the state reported 431 new infections in a 24-hour span.

Speaking to The Hindu, Telangana Director of Public Health DR G Srinivasa Rao said that the department does not recommend another lockdown despite the rising cases. He insisted that the public must maintain physical distancing, wear a mask and avoid crowded locations.
