Dr. Mohd Shoeb A Khan (MD, DNB (Nephrology)), consultant Nephrologist and Transplant Physician at Care Hospitals, outlines effects the covid-19 infection kidney. The doctor recommends all patients with kidney disease to get themselves vaccinated at the earliest and requests to follow SOP guidelines issued by the government to stop the spread of covid-19 infection.

Though the vaccination against covid-19 is safe, the true efficacy of all the available vaccines in the world is not known in patients ailing with kidney disease.

Dr. Khan transparently outlines the relationship between Covid-19 and kidneys through his bidirectional view. Covid-19 causes a variety of kidney problems and it effects the lungs and there will be the reduction of oxygen in the blood, which causes stress to the kidneys.

The doctor further added the virus can directly infect the kidney cells and cause kidney damage in form of – rise in serum creatinine level, protein leak in urine, reduced urine output and swelling of face and legs. To the surprise, the treatment to covid-19 also cause harm to kidneys, however it is usually transient.
