All that you have to know about nosebleed (Epistaxis)

Nosebleeds ( also called epistaxis ) can occur easily because of the location of the nose and the close-to- the-surface location of blood vessels in the lining of your nose.

Causes for nosebleed:

  1. Dry air
  2. Nose picking
  3. Cold ( upper respiratory infections) and sinusitis
  4. Blowing your nose with force
  5. Inserting an object into your nose
  6. Injury to the nose and/or face
  7. Allergic and non allergic rhinitis (inflammation of the nasal lining)
  8. Blood-thinning drugs (aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, war fair, and others )
  9. Cocaine and other drugs inhaled through the nose
  10. Chemical irritants
  11. High altitudes
  12. Deviated septum ( an abnormal shape of the wall that separates the two sides of the nose )
  13. Frequent use of nasal sprays and medications to treat itchy, runny or stuffy nose.
  14. Consumption of alcohol
  15. Bleeding disorders, such as hemophilia or von willebrand disease or leukemia
  16. High blood pressure
  17. Facial and nasal surgery
  18. Nasal tumors
  19. Nasal polyps
  20. Atherosclerosis
  21. Immune thrombocytopenia
  22. Hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia

How to get rid of ear infection ?

Ear infections:

Ear infections are one of the most prevalent ENT disorders. They occur when germs become trapped inside the middle of the ear.It causes pain and swelling/bulging of the eardrum.The eustachian tube, a tiny canal that originates in the ear and drains into the back of the throat, usually keeps unwanted germs out. If this tube is too small or becomes swollen shut by swelling or clogged by fluid and mucus, bacteria, or other microbes can enter the ear and cause an infection.

Symptoms:

  1. Pain an pressure
  2. Fever
  3. Difficulty hearing
  4. Nausea and vomiting
  5. Fluid discharge ( suggestive of a perforation)
  6. Loss of balance

Treatment:

  1. Apply a warm cloth to the affected ear.
  2. Take over-the-counter (OTC) pain medication such as ibuprofen (Advil) or acetaminophen (Tylenol).
  3. Use OTC or prescription ear drops to relieve pain.
  4. Take OTC decongestants like pseudoephedrine (sudafed).
  5. Avoid sleeping on the affected ear.

Do’s and Don’ts for ear health

Many people ignore ear health but we say taking care of your ears should be a priority because they matter a lot and one won’t be able to recognize this until and unless he or she faces some trouble. All we are trying to say is that they need to be taken care of just like eyes and teeth.
