Door-to-door covid vaccination not likely now: Government
The centre signaled that Maharashtra’s call for door-to-door vaccination for Covid might not be possible now. The health ministry indicated that it has received no formal request yet from Maharashtra.
The state is witnessing the highest numbers in the emergent second wave of the infection.
The health secretary said the vaccine is for adults, “distinct from a universal immunisation programme where we have decades of experience”.
He added, “What we are dealing with is not only adult vaccination but also a vaccination where there may be adverse events following vaccination. For which, you need to keep a person under watch for 30 minutes.”
The health secretary further said, “Till date, we have not received any specific update about what you call door to door vaccination”.
Brihanmumbai Corporation chief Iqbal Chahal told reporters, “We requested state to in turn request the Centre to allow us to do door-to-door vaccination”.
“When the Centre’s team had visited 10 days ago, I had requested them to allow us to go door to door, so we can go on vaccination drive in big way,” he said.

Study: 4th Covid vaccine dose effective in protecting people over 60
As per the new Israeli-led study, the largest healthcare organisation Clalit said fourth dose of Covid vaccine is effective for protecting people aged 60 and above.
The study found that a fourth dose can reduce the possibilities of symptomatic infection, hospitalisation, serious illness and mortality among the elders, Clalit said, Xinhua news agency reported.
In the study, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, Clalit researchers and their colleagues from Harvard University in Boston analysed data from 182,122 Clalit members, all aged 60 and above, who received Pfizer’s fourth dose.
“The study unequivocally demonstrates that the fourth dose provides effective protection in preventing morbidity,” said Ran Balicer, Director of the Clalit Research Institute.
“It will help every person to make a decision on the fourth vaccine based on their level of personal risk,” he added.
